Discretionary Portfolios

Douglas Investments manages portfolios locally and offshore for an exclusive group of private clients well known to the management team.

This management style is relationship based and Douglas Investments works closely with clients to establish their objectives, risk profile and needs. This results in an overall mandate which provides guidance for the discretionary management of the portfolio.

Local Offering

Local portfolios are managed on the broking platform of SBG Securities (the Stockbroking division of the Standard Bank Group). This provides clients with an independent custodian of the portfolio by using the registered CSDP of SBG Securities.

Douglas Investments is an authorised Broker of Stanlib funds and collaborates with Stanlib on investment opportunities and research.

Offshore Offering

Douglas Investments has a long standing relationship with HSBC Private Bank (previously HSBC Guyerzeller Bank) in Zurich, Switzerland. Based on this collaboration and the use of the HSBC platform, international portfolios consisting of virtually any marketable security can be facilitated and managed.

A relationship has also been established with Swissquote Bank SA, a bank listed on the Swiss Exchange and governed by the Swiss National Bank. Swissquote brings the advantage of a virtual bank which is ideally suited for international investments of the likes of Douglas Investments' clients.

Statements are sent to clients on a monthly basis, and at any time on their request. A market overview and if appropriate, specific comments relating to each portfolio, accompany the statements.

Management are always available to meet with clients at their request.

Fees are structured according to the value of assets under management for each client but generally consist of a basic fee and a participation fee. The basic fee is calculated as a percentage of the total portfolio value (time weighted) at a quarter end. The participation fee is structured based on any new gains achieved on the portfolio (high water mark calculation) and is also calculated quarterly. The participation fee is most important to the client and to Douglas Investments as it embodies the partnership principle under which the portfolios are managed.
